School Closure Procedures

The decision to close the school will be taken by either the Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher and will only be in very exceptional circumstances. Every effort will be made to keep the school open and running as normal. 

In the event of closure the information will be passed through to the local media using BBC Radio Derby and the Derby Telegraph.

The school website and school app will be updated as soon as possible and the school’s messaging service will be used to notify parents and staff. This has proved to be the most effective way of communicating emergency information.

Parents, students and staff should use the above lines of communication to check whether or not the school is open.

Any decision to close is taken for that day only and the system will be put into operation again should it be necessary to close for a second day.
